Brief History
Long Term Goals
1. Promote and preserve the health of the general public in the Himalayas
2. Empower the local population to be self sufficient and provide services to promote public health and hygiene
3. Raise the education level of the public in health matters
4. Build a vision centre to prevent visual impairment and support early detection of blindness in elderly and children.
Key Focus Areas
To focus on the health of infants and mothers in the Indian Himalayan Region, we work by addressing the following key areas:
– Hygiene and Sanitation
– Immunization
– Breastfeeding
– Family Planning Advice
– Antenatal and Post-Natal Care
– Improving Nutrition of Children and Elderly
– Eye Care
These key areas were selected after members of the committee travelled to the Uttarakhand region for medical camps, and saw firsthand the impact that a lack of education and medical support in these areas had on the local community. We will also address other medical problems which are preventable.
Brief History
The original trustees have completed multiple medical camps around the world in countries including: India, Russia, Kazakhstan and Sierra Leone, they found that although they were able to provide care and medical support to areas of the world that had limited access to medical facilities.
The support they offered was temporary and focused on pain relief.
The team agreed that camps could not deliver long lasting change which was sustainable and locally supported. Permanent support was agreed to be more valuable and empowering for a community.
Our Story:
Following a camp in Uttarakhand in 2014 and a camp in Dwarka (Gujarat) in 2017/18 there was on the ground identification of a need for permanent support.
A small team of 7 began planning in the midst of the 2020 pandemic and the Himalayan health initiative (HHI) Charity was officially registered on 28 March 2021.
Our Kharsadi clinic officially launched in May 2022 run by 2 ANM nurses and a support worker with support from Doctors in the UK & India
How We Work:
HHI has a sister Non-Profit Organization in India – The Mori Swasthya Foundation, led by Amar Parekh and Vipin Chauhan, which enables us to operate successfully in that region.
NGO Partners:
We have a range of partners that we work with in Uttarakhand, thanks to our trustees previous work

2. UNDP – We successfully held 2 camps in the remote villages of Taluka and Dhoni, in collaboration with the UNDP and Forest Department of Uttarakhand and treated 900 patients
3. Hospital Partners – Nirmal Ashram Hospital in Rishikesh and Ramkrishna Mission hospital are who we refer patients to
